Track 2 - "Drew Meets Omaha Meets Wordpress"

A huge part of the success of my 11th grade education was without a doubt my involvement in the ever-growing blogging world. My internet-based interaction with friends from school (and other bloggers) intensely cultivated new interests and exposed me to the perspectives and personalities of other thinkers.

Below are links to pictures of my blog (www.greateromaha.wordpress.com) and my dashboard of my blog account with Wordpress.

My blogging experience has helped me meet the following National Educational Technology Standards:

Students use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues. (S.1)  My class read information of all kinds from sources of all kinds and looked at numerous example blogs before we began constructing our own blog sites.Students apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.  (S.1) I used existing computer skills and knowledge of computers in order to create a successful blog.Students interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.  (S.2) Blogging is all about interaction among thinkers--whether it be the student next to me or a professor from an out-of-state university.Students advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology. (S.5) Our class was very careful when it came to being safe and legal when exploring the internet world.Students exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.  (S.5) Of course a blogger must have a positive attitude when working with fellow bloggers. This is an important skill I learned from blogging that I will not soon forget.

My blogging experience has helped me meet the following Arkansas English Language Arts Standards:

Students shall demonstrate competency in writing for a variety of purposes, topics, audiences employing a wide range of forms.  (S.5) Over the course of my "blogging life" I have written in a variety of tones and on a variety of subjects for a diverse audience.

  1. I love your format here--the way you list the individual standard followed by your commentary. I think I'll use this same strategy in my own portfolio!

  2. Hey. Sup?
